A couple of new service users arrive

Recently the Shepherd Centre welcomed two new Service Users ‘Arnie & Ian’. They have been given a penthouse suite in the corner of the Diamond lounge and are regularly fed and watered, they spend a lot of their time in their purpose-built exercise area and occasionally find themselves wrapped in cosy blankets or perched on the shoulders of staff and other service users.

Bringing a smile to everyone’s faces we wish, Arnie and Ian, the latest residents of the Shepherd Centre a happy time. Both have settled in well and are proving popular with all.

Send them to the Tower !

TowerofLondonlogoAnother fabulous day out in London (weather was kind to us) for the guys from Outreach, this time it was a visit to the Tower of London.

After a crowded train journey partly due to being half term week although this didn’t seem to dampen the spirit of our party who were all very excitable.

First decision of the day was put to the vote, whether to go straight to the Tower or eat something, a resounding ‘eat something first’ was carried unanimously and we all ended up in the pub for an enjoyable meal and soft drink. Everybody had a great time and we were all suitably full and refreshed we made are way through the crowds of people to the Tower stopping by at one of the numerous gardens /parks for a quick photo call.TowerofLondon3TowerofLondonpub

After a nice stroll along the banks of the Thames we arrived at the Tower. We decided to make the Crown jewels are first stop but when we go there the queue was incredibly long, after locating a Beefeater we were kindly shown around a back entrance and straight through to the Jewel roomTowerofLondon12. Lots of gold, silver, jewels and crowns on display which everybody really enjoyed.

Crown Jewels viewed we went on to visit the fusiliers Museum in which Victoria crosses and other medals were on display,. Lots of interactive stuff to do including trying on Soldier helmets, feeling the weight of backpacks and lots of photo opportunities with guns etc.

The white tower, traitors gate, Bloody tower and a walk along the wall were all visited negotiating hundreds of steps and stairs which everyone managed really well although very tiring

VE Day Tea Dance

VetitleStaff and Service Users celebrate VE day by holding an afternoon Tea Dance. Music from the 40’s accompanied tea, cake and scones and even a few minutes silence (well-respected by all) at 3.00pm. Staff and some Service users even made the effort to get into the spirit of the wartime celebrations by dressing up. A great afternoon celebrating a momentous day.
